Prevention

Child abuse is an issue that must be addressed by the entire community. The best way to prevent child abuse is to increase awareness about the legal responsibility to report suspected abuse, provide education about the dynamics of abuse, understand its long term effects, and most important, have a conversation with our children.

CAREageous Kids

CAREageous Kids is an evidence-based primary prevention curriculum. The overarching theme and tagline of CAREageous Kids is that "Smart kids have a mind that is courageous and kind." The curriculum was developed to meet the needs of 4th and 5th grade students in Louisiana. Given the age of the children, none of the information presented mentions sex and sex-violence. Rather, the information focuses on evidence based pro-social messages.

T.R.U.S.T

T.R.U.S.T (Teaching Respect, Understanding, Safety and Tolerance) is an evidence-based & informed primary prevention curriculum for students in 6th through 8th grade. The purpose of the curriculum is the prevention of sexual violence perpetration through the teaching of respect, understanding and tolerance. Through learning about safety, students also learn to protect themselves from victimization.

Upstanders

Upstanders is and evidence-informed bystander intervention curriculum. The focus is on the prevention of the perpetration of sexual violence. Upstanders is designed to assist 11th and 12th graders in the age-appropriate manner with developing positive social skills that will help them take a positive stand and act on behalf of themselves and others.

Safe Dates

Safe Dates is an affective, research-based program that targets the attitudes and behaviors associated with dating abuse and violence. Safe Dates helps teens more clearly define what a healthy dating relationship is and what dating abuse is. It helps teens understand the causes and consequences of dating abuse, as well as the key ways to prevent dating abuse from happening.
